Artistic Black Tie Wedding Film in Seattle

VICTORY & ELIJAH —

If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ve heard me talk about creating thoughtfully tailored wedding films for each of the couples I get to work with. Once a couple books with me, I take the time to get to know their story, what they love about each other, and what parts of marriage and their wedding they are looking forward to the most. I also just love getting to know them as individuals. Whether that’s learning what their favorite type of music is or what they do for fun, my goal is to become fast friends with my couples. I desire to invest in that relationship because I want to create an artistic wedding film that is authentic to both the couple and their story, and Elijah and Victory’s wedding video was just that. They also added a story session to their wedding video package and it transformed their wedding film into something so much more than just a highlight reel of their wedding day alone, but their relationship as a whole.

About the Couple

Victory & Elijah are genuinely sweet people. The kind of people that you feel like you’ve known for years upon meeting them. This made my job easy in terms of getting to know them, because they too, were invested in taking part of this process and trusting me to share their story. While Elijah was from the Portland area and Victory was from Chicago, the two met during the pandemic in a small group at church. They quickly found that they shared a love for the outdoors and began going on “socially distanced runs” together, hiking, and exploring their new home and now favorite city, Seattle, Washington.

For one of their first dates, they took a ferry to Whidbey Island and explored Deception Pass and the surrounding area. It was this date that inspired their Story Session and Engagement Film.

3 Reasons Why I Think Every Couple Should do a Story Session

  1. It showcases you both in your most natural environment. Think back to one of your favorite dates as a couple- the butterflies, smiles, effortless joy in making that memory together. The simplicity of holding hands, walking to a favorite view, or cuddling on the couch. In a story film, it’s all captured for you to soak in and remember, when the world fades away and it’s just the two of you. Real, raw, candid, and natural.

  2. Most people have never been in front of a video camera! It’s not scary, but it’s so fun to get to hangout together before the wedding day. Not only does it allow us to bond as couple and videographer, but also helps me learn more about you as a couple so that I can capture the details that make your story and relationship so unique. In addition, it ensures that you both are entirely comfortable in front of the camera on your wedding day so you can be present with each other.

  3. It transforms your wedding film into a mini documentary of you and your journey as a couple. Not only is it special to look back and remember your wedding day but also the relationship you two have shared far before it, and the beauty of it evolving into marriage. It can remind you how it all started, your favorite things to do together, the beauty of your relationship in the midst of an outing or activity. A story film not only allows you to share your big celebration but the moments in between that made your relationship what it is today.

All of my wedding videography packages come with the option to add on a story session and the additional option to turn that story session into its own separate film like Victory and Elijah did.

Reflections from Victory & Elijah

1. Why did you choose to add on an engagement film?

“It was a wonderful way to reminisce on one of our first dates. We loved the idea of weaving in more of our story leading up to engagement and our wedding, versus solely highlighting the wedding celebrations. We love storytelling and we really enjoyed weaving in more memories which ultimately culminated in our wedding day!”

2. What did you feel like were the benefits of it?

“It gave us another great opportunity to get to know YOU! It was super valuable to meet and get to know you better before the wedding. It made us feel more comfortable and we felt like you got to know us and our story a bit more. Because you knew us better, you got the opportunity to pick out what was important to us.”

3. What was your favorite part of your full wedding film?

“We both love our private vows, moments with family members, and more intimate moments. And the party and seeing all the things you captured that we might not have had the chance to see from being swept up in our day”

Artistic Washington Wedding Videographer

I have always enjoyed turning the ordinary moments around me into art- whether that’s making a cup of coffee in my favorite mug and styling my books and blanket around it for a cozy aesthetic or taking photos of friends on a day trip to the beach. There’s something about finding the beauty in everything around us; from the details of our surrounding environment to the embrace of a loved one. As Mary Oliver puts it, “To pay attention. This is our endless and proper work.” I believe that what makes a couples wedding or story film unique and breathtaking is when we pay attention to the details. And that is what I continuously aspire to do- from the very beginning when I meet and hear the story of each of my couples to the final cuts of their film, I want every detail to tell their story in an artistic and meaningful way from beginning to end.
